Bourbon Strawberry Angel Food Cupcakes

Delight in the light and airy texture of angel food cupcakes infused with the rich flavor of bourbon and topped with fresh strawberries.

  • 1 cup cake flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup egg whites (about 8 large eggs)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and position the oven rack in the lower third.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the cake flour, 1 cup of sugar, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, whip the egg whites with cream of tartar until frothy.
  4. Gradually add in the remaining sugar while continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
  5. Gently fold in the flour mixture and then the vanilla and bourbon until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into an ungreased tube pan and bake for about 30-35 minutes.
  7. Once done, invert the pan to cool completely before removing the cupcakes.
  8. Top each cupcake with whipped cream and sliced strawberries before serving.
