  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by the molasses, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves. Mix well.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool for a few minutes before frosting.
  9. For the frosting, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth, then spread evenly over the cooled brownies.
